    About the role

    With a team committed to achieving the organisation's goals through commitment, consistency and valuing individual contribution, we have a number exciting opportunities available for energetic and skilled Forklift Operators to join our teams at the following locations: Brisbane/Redbank Plains; Sydney/Wetherill Park; Melbourne/Sunshine West; and Adelaide/Regency Park.

    Working under general direction, the Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vehicles and containers with freight to legal capacity and blending freight to achieve maximum payloads. Where required, the Forklift Operator will support other warehouse and logistics functions to ensure optimal operation of the broader Northline business.

    This position will be full time, working in our freight division, reporting to the Operations Managers/Supervisors.

     Job tasks and responsibilities 

    • Ensure pre-start check is undertaken before use of forklift and other equipment certifying the equipment is in good working order.
    • Operate forklift and other machinery safely and in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Ensure all inbound and/or outbound freight is:
      • Accurately scanned, matched, sorted and placed safely into correct locations.
      • ‘Checked, Weighed and Cubed’ (CWC) to reduce revenue leakage.
      • Accounted for with accompanying paperwork in good order.
      • Unloaded and/or loaded safely with zero damage within set time limits.
      • Blended effectively to maximise load revenue.
      • Compliant with legislative requirements with regards to load mass.
      • Compliant with Chain of Responsibility including appropriate load restraint.
    • Review consignment notes and provide feedback to Supervisors on quality/issues.
    • Match freight and connotes: no miss-sorted or miss-loaded freight.
    • Ensure all inbound units are completely cleaned and all pallets, load restraint equipment and dunnage are recorded, removed and placed in the appropriate locations.
    • Report all incidents of damage, shortages, split consignments etc. to supervisor in a timely manner.
    • Record dunnage as per procedure and ensure load restraint equipment is correctly allocated.
    • Ensure the yard is kept organised and tidy.
    • Work toward a target of zero near miss incidents or accidents.
    • Build and maintain professional working relationships with all levels of the organisation.
    • Contribute to shared goals and work effectively as part of a team.
    • Review processes and procedures and recommend and implement improvement initiatives.
    • Any other reasonable tasks or projects as requested by your manager.

     

    To be considered for this role applicants must: 

    • Genuine commitment to Health, Safety & Environment practices.
    • Integrity, trustworthiness, professionalism and a customer centric approach to problem solving.
    • Current and valid Class LF Forklift Licence (High Risk Work Licence).
    • Experience operating a Forklift in a similar environment and/or industry.
    • Solid experience loading and unloading freight that is: oversized, ugly, long lengths, general, non-palletised.
    • Suitable physical ability to handle repetitive lifting (manual handling) of freight up to 20kgs.
    • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Previous experience working towards targets and deadlines.
    • Good time management skills coupled with resilience and adaptability.
    • Proven ability to visualise and plan the load.
    • Ability to work autonomously and unsupervised coupled with a proactive attitude.
    • Good language, literacy and numeracy skills. 
    • Actively participate in team meetings, safety meetings and training programs as required.
    • All freight is Checked, Weighed and Cubed (CWC) and any anomalies reported to the supervisor.
    • Ensure all measurables regarding; scanning, damages, DIFOT (Delivery in Full and On Time), safety, pallets are met.
    • Loading and unloading of general freight including long lengths, ugly, oversized freight safely and with zero damage.
    • Meeting set loading and unloading deadlines whilst maintaining safety and zero damages.

    Job benefits and perks 

    An effective salary of between $62,000 and $72,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience is on offer. Remuneration will reflect current market conditions and industry award rates and will be discussed with the successful applicant.
